 Trap and Bass
Spectrasoul having a 30 minute trap intro... Rockwell going trappy in almost his whole guestmix for Friction on BBC1... Wilkinson spinning trap tracks in his Beatpatrol 2013 promomix... And I could go on... What do you guys think of this Trap music in international drum and bass sets? Do they just roll on the hype of trap, or do they actually like it? Is this just temporary, or will it be a new subgenre like liquid, tech, neuro...? What is it with these 808 claps and "hey"-vocals? What's your thought on this?

 Re: Trap and Bass
Will become a new genre I think. But I'm not fan of it for a 100%.
I think it's not wrong to play one trap track in a set for variation but when it goes all trappy I just don't like it anymore. Apart from Rockwells remix of Kingpin there aren't really tracks out there that I really like.

 Re: Trap and Bass
did Spectrasoul really play 30 min of trap @ square? I thought it was only 10 minutes... anyway, didn't like those 10 mins and I guess I'm never really going to like the genre. It's defo not a subgenre of dnb and it will never be one either.

 Re: Trap and Bass
trap was killed before it actually was born. There are (were) a lot of interesting sounds and influences in those early tunes, but as so much new music, it never got the chance to evolve from a 'proto-genre' to an actual genre.
Harlem shake was the rise and subsequent fall of trap. What happened to dubstep when everybody turned their heads in the same direction (loud, overcompressed poppy bass music), has already happened to trap.
Music, not so long ago, was very regionally influenced. DnB was a UK genre, that over the years got some more airplay across the world. Techno & House were born in the states, fuck all knows who invented trance. But the point is, that the slow distribution allowed genres to evolve gradually. Unless you were a dj, the music you listened to as a 15 yr old, was more or less decided on your location.
With the rapid evolution of information distribution, a lot of this regionality dissappeared. 2 years ago being a kid living in Capetown, NYC, Rio or Wijnegem, you listened to dubstep. This winter trap was being shoved down everybody's throat. It was the name for a genre that was higly influenced by southern hiphop and rap, but quickly became the name for music that sounded like Harlem Shake.
So in response to your question: dj's who play trap in their dnb sets, your too late. The hype is already over, best switch to samba-house (which will be the next big thing, mark my words)

 Re: Trap and Bass
Dubstep, drumstep, half tempo d&b, trap, .. everytime some new hype comes along Breakz looses their mind :p But drum&bass is still the main bass genre! It survived every hype.
